Lead Capture & Forms

Collect reader details by gating your publication with a lead capture form — configure fields, timing, and export collected leads.

Lead Capture & Forms

ZenFlip's lead capture feature lets you collect reader details — name, email, company, and more — directly inside your flipbook. You choose when the form appears and which fields to include. Collected leads are stored in your dashboard and can be exported at any time.

How It Works

When lead capture is enabled on a publication, readers encounter a form at a moment you define — before they start reading, after a certain number of pages, or at a specific page. They fill in their details and continue reading. You receive each submission in your Leads dashboard.

Enabling Lead Capture

Lead capture is configured per publication:

  1. Open the publication from your dashboard

  1. Click the Settings tab

  1. Scroll to the Lead Capture section

  1. Toggle Enable Lead Capture to on

  1. Configure your form options (see below)

  1. Click Save

Configuring Your Form

Display Timing

Choose when the lead capture form appears to readers:

  • Before reading — The form appears as soon as the reader opens the flipbook, before they see any content. Best for gated premium content.

  • After X pages — The reader can browse a set number of pages before the form appears. Gives readers a preview of your content before asking for their details. A common setting is after pages 2–5.

  • At a specific page — The form appears when the reader reaches a particular page number. Useful if you want to gate a specific section, such as pricing or a product order page.

Form Fields

Choose which fields to include in your form. You can mark each field as required or optional:

  • Email address — Collected by default; cannot be disabled

  • Full Name — On by default, but can be turned off

  • Company / Organisation — Optional

  • Phone number — Optional

  • Custom fields — Add as many custom fields as you like (text, email, phone, dropdown, or textarea), each with its own label

Keep your form short. Forms with only name + email consistently convert at higher rates than longer forms. Only add extra fields if you genuinely need that data.

Require This Form (Hard Gate)

By default, the form is a dismissible overlay - readers can close it and keep reading. If your trigger is set to At a specific page, you can additionally toggle Require this form: this turns it into a true gate, the same mechanism as password protection - the reader can't dismiss the form or view any page until they submit it. This option isn't available for the "Before reading" or "After X pages" triggers, since a hard gate only makes sense once you've picked an exact page to gate.

Soft gates (dismissible) typically have higher completion rates because readers feel less pressured. Hard gates are appropriate for high-value gated content where conversion quality matters more than volume.

Form Headline and Body Text

Customise the headline and introductory text that appears above the form fields. The default text is neutral ("Get full access to this publication"), but you can replace it with something more specific:

  • "Download our 2026 Product Catalogue — enter your details to continue"

  • "This report is free. Just tell us a little about yourself."

  • "Sign up to read the full case study"

A specific, benefit-led headline consistently outperforms generic copy.

Viewing Collected Leads

All submissions are stored in your Leads dashboard:

  1. Click Leads in the top navigation

  1. Use the Publication dropdown to filter leads from a specific flipbook

  1. Each row shows the reader's submitted details, submission timestamp, and the publication they were reading

Leads are retained for the lifetime of your account.

Exporting Leads

To download your leads as a CSV file:

  1. Open the Leads dashboard

  1. Apply any filters (date range, publication)

  1. Click Export CSV

  1. The file downloads immediately

The CSV includes all form fields, submission date and time, publication name, and the page the reader was on when the form appeared.

Lead Capture Analytics

The Analytics tab for each publication includes a Lead Capture section:

  • Form impressions — How many readers saw the form

  • Submissions — How many readers completed and submitted the form

  • Conversion rate — Submissions divided by impressions

  • Skip rate — Percentage of readers who saw the form and dismissed it without submitting (not applicable when "Require this form" is on)

Industry benchmarks for flipbook lead capture conversion rates are typically 5–8% of total readers (not just those who see the form). If your rate is below this, try:

  • Reducing the number of required fields

  • Moving the form trigger later (fewer pages before the gate)

  • Improving the form headline copy

  • Enabling the skip option
