v2.0 — Built for Organizations

Content every reader can use, sign-in through the identity system you already run, and control over where your publications appear. Our largest release since launch.

v2.0 — Built for Organizations

Universities, non-profits and companies ask three things of anything they publish with. Can every reader use it, including people who rely on assistive technology? Can our people sign in with the accounts we already manage? And do we stay in control of where our content goes?

v2.0 answers all three. It builds on the accessibility foundations from v1.1 and the identity groundwork from v1.8, and it's the largest release we've shipped since launch.

Accessible to Every Reader

Text view: the whole publication as one accessible page

Text view presents an entire publication as a single, well-structured page: real headings, lists, tables and image descriptions, in reading order. Screen-reader users, people who enlarge text or reflow content, and anyone who simply prefers to read rather than flip get the same publication, complete.

Readers reach it from the Open accessible text view skip link, the first stop for keyboard users. Publishers can also add a Text view button to the toolbar with the Text view toggle under Viewer Controls.

Your PDF's structure, carried through

If your PDF is tagged, ZenFlip now reads its structure and passes it to assistive technology in flip and scroll views too: headings to navigate by, lists announced as lists, tables with their row and column headers, and figures with the alt text you wrote. The effort that went into an accessible source document is no longer lost on the way to the web.

Flip view now exposes the whole book to screen readers, not only the pages currently loaded, so readers can search and navigate the full publication.

An accessibility check that tells you what to fix

Each publication page now carries a short accessibility summary, such as "Looks good" or a count of suggestions. Expand it to see each finding with its severity and the WCAG success criterion it relates to: an untagged PDF, a table without header cells, an image without a description, a skipped heading level. It never blocks publishing; it tells you where a few minutes of work in your source file make the most difference.

Transcripts and captions for audio

Audio hotspots now take a transcript, typed in or uploaded as a text, VTT or SRT file, and timed captions from a VTT or SRT file. Readers open them with Show transcript and a Captions toggle in the player. Transcripts also appear in Text view, and the editor's Hotspots tab flags any audio clip that doesn't have one yet.

Read-aloud, from the first word

When read-aloud starts, the first word is highlighted immediately, so readers following along never lose their place at the start.

Sign-In Through Your Identity Provider

Available on the Enterprise plan, under Settings → SSO / SAML.

SAML 2.0 and OpenID Connect

Your team signs in with the identity provider you already use, over SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect. Our SAML implementation has been verified end to end against Okta.

  • Import your IdP's metadata by URL or XML. Metadata imported from a URL is refreshed daily, so certificate rotations are picked up automatically.

  • Certificate monitoring — the settings page shows when your IdP's signing certificate expires, and admins are emailed 30, 14, 7 and 1 days ahead.

  • Attribute mapping — choose which attributes supply email, name and group membership.

  • Group to role mapping — map IdP groups to Viewer, Editor or Admin. Access follows your directory, not a separate list.

  • Enforce SSO — require single sign-on for everyone, with an option to let owners keep a password for emergencies.

  • Diagnostics — What your IdP sent us shows the last assertion's attributes, which turns a support ticket into a two-minute fix.

Single logout

Signing out of ZenFlip can now sign the user out of your identity provider too, over SAML or OpenID Connect. With SAML, signing out at your identity provider ends the ZenFlip session as well.

SCIM provisioning, now with groups

SCIM 2.0 now covers Groups as well as Users, so the group memberships that drive roles stay in sync automatically. ZenFlip also publishes the SCIM discovery documents and accepts the application/scim+json content type, which Microsoft Entra ID and other standards-following providers use when they first connect.

Control Over Where Your Content Appears

Share → Embed → Where can this be embedded? lets you list the sites allowed to embed a publication, such as your intranet, your LMS or your member portal. Every other site is refused by the reader's own browser, which can't be worked around from the embedding page. It complements passwords, IP ranges and reader accounts, which control who can read.

Presenting and Reading

Presenter mode

Show on another screen puts a publication on a projector, a display in the lobby or a meeting-room screen. Open the presentation page on the big screen, enter the six-digit code it shows, and turn pages from your own device. Anyone with access to a publication can present it, which makes it equally at home in a lecture hall, a board meeting or an all-hands. Available on Creator plans and above.

Page turn style and depth

Choose how pages turn, per publication: Flat fold, 3D curl or Rigid 3D, with an optional 3D depth effect and a Spine shadow toggle. Every publication can feel like the object it represents, from a glossy annual report to a hardback catalogue.

A faster hotspot editor

Click and drag to draw a hotspot, drop a file straight onto the page, select several at once, nudge with the arrow keys, and align with snap guides.

Publishing Workflow

  • Restore deleted publications — a Deleted publications page lists recently deleted items with the time left to restore them.

  • Carry hotspots to a new version — Copy hotspots to live moves your hotspots onto a re-uploaded file, matched by page, with an undo.

  • Know before you re-upload — replacing a file now tells you how many hotspots would be left without a page, before anything changes.

  • Free preview as a page range — offer the first chapter, or any range of pages, ahead of a paywall.

  • Tell your readers about a new issue — email existing readers when a new edition of a series publishes.

Growth and Insight

  • Returning readers — per-publication analytics now distinguish new from returning readers, counted from signed-in readers only, so the number means something. Available on Business plans and above.

  • Search visibility — Settings → Search Visibility shows whether each publication can be found on Google and why. Search indexing is available on Creator plans and above; AI crawlers are blocked.

  • Subscription discount codes — when a discount code is applied to a subscription, choose whether it covers the first payment only or every payment. Readers see exactly what they'll renew at.

  • Configurable New Releases — turn your storefront's New Releases section on or off, set how many days a title counts as new, and give it your own label.

Ongoing security hardening and reliability improvements ship with every release.
