Understanding Your Analytics
Get a complete overview of ZenFlip's analytics dashboard and learn what each metric means for your publications.
Understanding Your Analytics
ZenFlip's analytics dashboard gives you clear insight into how readers interact with your flipbooks. This guide explains the dashboard layout and what each metric means.
Accessing Analytics
There are two ways to view analytics:
Global analytics - Click Analytics in the top navigation to see aggregated data across all your publications
Per-publication analytics - Open a specific publication and click the Analytics tab to see data for that flipbook only
Dashboard Overview
The analytics dashboard is organized into several sections, each providing a different lens on your publication performance.
Summary Cards
At the top of the dashboard, you'll see high-level summary cards showing your key metrics at a glance:
Total Page Views - The total number of page views across all publications (or for the selected publication)
Unique Viewers - The number of distinct individuals who viewed your flipbooks, based on browser sessions
Average Read Time - The average amount of time readers spend with your flipbook open and active
Total Publications - The number of published flipbooks (global view only)
Each card shows the current period's value along with a comparison to the previous period (e.g., "up 12% from last month").
Date Range Selector
Use the date range picker at the top of the dashboard to filter analytics to a specific time period:
Last 7 days - Recent activity snapshot
Last 30 days - Monthly overview (default)
Last 90 days - Quarterly trends
Custom range - Pick specific start and end dates
All charts and metrics update immediately when you change the date range.
Key Metrics Explained
Page Views
A page view is counted each time a reader navigates to a page in your flipbook. If a reader flips to page 5, that's one page view for page 5. If they flip back to page 3, that's another page view for page 3.
Page views help you understand the total volume of engagement with your content.
Unique Viewers
Unique viewers represent individual people (technically, unique browser sessions) who opened your flipbook. If the same person visits your flipbook three times in a week, that counts as one unique viewer but multiple page views.
This metric helps you understand the actual size of your audience versus repeat visits.
Average Read Time
Average read time measures how long readers actively engage with your flipbook per session. ZenFlip tracks active reading time - the clock pauses when the reader switches to another tab or the browser is minimized.
A higher average read time generally indicates that readers find your content engaging and are reading through it rather than bouncing quickly.
Page Heatmap
The page heatmap shows which pages in your flipbook get the most attention. Pages are color-coded from cool (blue - fewer views) to hot (red - most views). This visualization quickly reveals:
Which pages attract the most readers
Where readers tend to drop off
Whether readers are reaching the end of your publication
See Tracking Reader Engagement for a deeper dive on heatmaps.
Charts and Visualizations
Views Over Time
A line chart showing daily page views and unique viewers over your selected date range. Use this to spot trends, identify spikes (perhaps from a social media share or email campaign), and understand your baseline readership.
Device Breakdown
A pie chart showing the split between desktop, mobile, and tablet readers. This helps you optimize your content - if most readers are on mobile, ensure your PDF layouts work well on smaller screens.
Geographic Distribution
A map and table showing where your readers are located (by country and city). This is especially useful for businesses targeting specific markets or tracking the reach of a campaign.
