Translating a Publication
Offer readers the text of your publication in other languages, machine-translated on your own AI key.
Translating a Publication
ZenFlip can machine-translate the text of a publication so readers can read it in another language. Translations appear in the publication's Text view, the accessible text version of the book, where readers pick a language from the Language menu. The flipbook pages themselves stay in the original language.
Before you start
Translation runs on your own AI key, so your AI provider bills you for it. ZenFlip never sends your publication's text to an AI provider on its own key.
Go to Settings → AI and add an OpenAI or Anthropic API key.
Make sure AI features are turned on for your organization.
If you skip this, ZenFlip tells you when you try to start a translation.
Translating
Open the publication from your dashboard.
Scroll to Translations.
Tick up to 5 languages and click Translate.
Translation runs in the background. The list shows each language's progress, and you can leave the page while it works. Readers are offered a language only once it is completely finished: they never see a half-translated book.
Headings, lists, tables and image descriptions keep their structure in the translation, so screen-reader users get the same navigation as in the original.
What readers see
In Text view, readers choose a language from the Language menu. A note at the top says the text is machine translated, because the wording is not yours. Choosing a language adds ?lang= to the address, so a reader can share a link that opens in that language.
Uploading a new version
A new upload is translated again only where its text changed. Pages whose text is the same reuse the earlier translation, so you are not billed twice for them. Request the languages again on the new version from the same Translations panel.
Stopping or removing a translation
Click the bin next to a language to delete its translation; readers stop being offered it straight away. If a translation stops with an error (for example, your key was removed or ran out of credit), fix the cause and click Retry.
