Google Analytics (GA4)

Send flipbook views, page turns, link clicks and reading time to your own Google Analytics 4 properties.

Google Analytics (GA4)

ZenFlip can send what readers do in your flipbooks to your own Google Analytics 4 properties, alongside ZenFlip's built-in analytics. It is available on every plan, and an organization admin sets it up.

Connecting GA4

  1. In Google Analytics, open Admin → Data Streams, pick your web stream and copy its Measurement ID. It looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX.

  2. In ZenFlip, go to Settings → Branding and scroll to Google Analytics.

  3. Paste the Measurement ID and click Save.

To send the same events to more than one property, for example your own and an agency's, click Add another property. You can add up to 5, and every event goes to each of them. To stop sending events, remove every ID and click Save.

The setting covers every flipbook in your organization, including embedded ones.

Events ZenFlip sends

Event

When

page_view

The flipbook opens (sent by GA4 itself)

zenflip_session_start

A reading session starts

zenflip_page_view

A reader turns to a page

zenflip_page_exit

A reader leaves a page, with the time spent on it

zenflip_hotspot_click

A reader clicks a link or other hotspot

zenflip_session_end

The reader leaves, with the total reading time

Ad impressions and clicks are also sent, with the event name zenflip_ followed by the ad event type.

To see events arrive while you test, open Admin → DebugView in GA4.

ZenFlip starts GA4 with consent denied for analytics and ads storage. Until your own consent banner grants it, GA4 measures without cookies, which keeps readers in the EU and UK covered by default. If your site runs a consent tool, it can update consent in the usual GA4 way.

Previews you open from the dashboard are not sent, so your own checks do not count as readers.

A publication set to strict privacy sends nothing to Google Analytics at all: the GA4 script is not loaded for it, and no ZenFlip events are sent. Strict privacy is for books where who read what must not be recorded, and GA4 records the page address, the referring site and, once your consent tool allows it, a visitor ID.
