Discount Codes

Create promo codes that take a percentage or fixed amount off publications, collections, and subscription plans at checkout.

Discount Codes

Discount codes reduce the price a reader pays at checkout. They are different from access codes, which skip checkout entirely and grant access for free.

Available on: Business and Enterprise plans.

Creating a code

Go to Revenue → Discount Codes and click New Code. Choose Single code to create one code (for example SUMMIT20) or Bulk generate to create up to 5,000 unique codes at once.

For each code you can set:

  • Discount type — a percentage (for example 25% off) or a fixed amount (for example $20 off)

  • Max uses — how many times the code can be used in total; leave blank for unlimited

  • Expires — the last day the code works; it stops working at the end of that day

  • Applies to — the entire order, or only specific publications, collections, and subscription plans

  • Minimum order amount — the code only applies when the order is at least this amount

For fixed-amount codes, Prorate for geo regions scales the discount along with any regional pricing, so readers in discounted regions get the same relative saving.

Discount codes on subscription plans

When a code applies to a subscription plan (either selected under Specific products, or with Entire order), choose how long the discount lasts:

  • First payment only — the reader pays the discounted price for their first billing period, then renews at the full plan price. For example, a $20 code on a $47/year plan charges $27 today and $47 at each renewal.

  • Every payment — the reader keeps the discounted price on every renewal for as long as they stay subscribed.

This choice is fixed when the code is created. To offer different terms, create a new code.

Readers see the renewal price on the plan page before they pay, and on the card payment page. Each reader can use a given code once.

Readers paying by card are charged through your connected Stripe account. For readers in India paying through Razorpay, a discount code on a subscription plan buys one discounted billing period that does not renew automatically.

How readers use a code

On a plan page, readers enter the code in the Promo code box and click Apply to see the discounted price. On your storefront home page, clicking a subscription plan card (or its Have a promo code? View plan details link) opens that plan's page. If a reader types a discount code into the Redeem code box instead, they are told it's a discount code and given a link to the plan. For publications and collections, readers enter the code in the cart at checkout.

To share a code with the box already filled in, add ?code= and the code to the plan page's address, for example …/subscription/<plan>?code=SUMMIT20. Readers still click Apply.

Tracking and turning off codes

The Discount Codes list shows each code's discount, what it applies to, how many times it has been used, and its expiry date. Click Export CSV to download all codes.

Deleting a code that has never been used removes it. Deleting a code that has already been used deactivates it instead, so your order history stays intact.
