Text Extraction
MuPDF extracts the text from every PDF page that has selectable text and renders it as a transparent overlay for screen readers, search, and selection. Tagged PDFs keep their own headings, lists, tables, and image descriptions for screen readers. For scans and image-only pages, add a page description (see "Editable Page Descriptions").
Paragraph Detection
Analyzes vertical gaps, font sizes, and font faces to find natural section breaks for TTS pauses.

Paragraph-Aware Text-to-Speech
Reads each paragraph as a separate utterance with natural 400ms pauses. Word-level highlighting tracks the spoken position in real time. Speed adjustable from 0.5x to 2x. Auto-advances between pages.

Text View
The whole publication as one accessible web page: headings, paragraphs, lists, and image descriptions in reading order, with a contents list and page markers. Text reflows when readers zoom. Keyboard and screen reader users can always open it; turn on the "Text view" switch to show a button in the viewer toolbar too.
Audio Hotspots with Transcripts and Captions
Audio hotspots take a transcript, typed or uploaded as a text, VTT or SRT file, plus timed captions from a VTT or SRT file. Readers open an audio transcript with Show transcript and switch captions on with the Captions toggle in the player, and transcripts also appear in Text view. The editor's Hotspots tab flags any audio clip that has no transcript yet.
Accessibility Review and Suggestions
Every publication carries a short accessibility summary, such as "Looks good" or a count of suggestions. Expand it to see each finding with its severity and the WCAG success criterion it relates to: an untagged PDF, a table without header cells, an image without a description, or a skipped heading level. It never blocks publishing; it shows where changes to your source file matter most.

Is ZenFlip built to WCAG 2.2 AA?
Yes. ZenFlip is built natively to WCAG 2.2 AA — no third-party accessibility overlay — one version ahead of the WCAG 2.1 AA standard referenced by ADA Title II. Our VPAT (WCAG 2.2 AA edition) documents the support level for each criterion, including where support is still partial. We also publish a versioned accessibility statement. Meeting obligations such as ADA Title II also depends on the content you publish, so review the VPAT against your own requirements and use the accessibility review to see what to improve.
Does ZenFlip work with screen readers?
Yes. ZenFlip uses ARIA live regions, semantic landmarks, role attributes, and descriptive labels. It is tested with VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA, and JAWS.
What is the ADA Title II digital accessibility deadline?
State and local government entities serving 50,000 or more people must comply with WCAG 2.1 AA by April 26, 2027. Smaller entities and special district governments have until April 26, 2028.
How do I make an accessible digital flipbook from a PDF?
Upload your PDF and ZenFlip's reader does the technical work: it extracts text, detects paragraphs, builds word-level maps, and adds ARIA markup. Whether the flipbook conforms also depends on your content, and ZenFlip gives you tools for that. If your PDF is tagged (for example, exported from Word with accessibility tags), ZenFlip passes its headings, lists, tables, and image alt text to screen readers. You can also edit page descriptions and enable AI Vision Processing for image-heavy content. The accessibility review then lists suggestions, with the WCAG criterion for each, so you know what to fix in the source file.
What about the European Accessibility Act?
The EAA has been in force since June 2025 and requires accessible digital products across EU member states. EN 301 549, the harmonized European standard, bases its web requirements on WCAG — and ZenFlip is built to WCAG 2.2 AA.
Can I make an accessible interactive PDF with ZenFlip?
